Design web images. By pairing good aesthetic sense and the use of design or photo-editing software, you can make and sell background graphics for social media pages, web logos, or computer icon packages. If you know or are willing to learn computer programming, seriously consider making web pages; programmers may be easy to come by, but programmers with an eye for beauty are another thing altogether.
According to a joint study of U.S. tax return data by the Treasury Department, Williams College and Indiana University, about 60 percent of the top one-tenth of one percent of income earners are executives, managers, supervisors and financial professionals. That, of course, includes equity-based compensation. If you’ve got the ability and the drive, climbing the corporate ladder pays off big-time. Again, it did for me.
Participate in medical studies. If just the thought of this frightens you, know that the intensity of such studies varies greatly. Some studies ask participants (particularly those with medical conditions) to test treatments or medications that can have adverse side effects, but others ask participants to perform physical tasks with no lasting effects. If you are able-bodied and paranoid about keeping it that way, you can even participate as a control in a study at a nearby medical research facility or medical school.

I think that people are getting more cautious about talking about their income and what their assets are. The mood of the country is just a lot different than it was back the late 1990’s during the tech boom. There are people making good money who have great savings that don’t want to share this information. A large part of that, I think, is the reality that there are many people – MANY people – who have really suffered with recent economic issues in this country. There are many areas of the country that have seen many residents just crushed by things.
According to The Millionaire Next Door, two-thirds of America’s millionaires are self-employed or small business owners. Half consider themselves to be entrepreneurs. Just 20 percent were professionals, such as doctors or lawyers, and 62 percent have a bachelor’s or no college degrees. Meanwhile, the average household income was $247,000 and the average household net worth was $3.7 million. And that’s 18-year-old data.
